Converting Images to JPG
JPG (JPEG) is the most widely supported image format for photos and complex images. Converting your PNG, GIF, WebP, or SVG images to JPG is useful when you need maximum compatibility (email clients, older applications), smaller file sizes for photos, or when you need to remove transparency from PNG images.
When to Convert to JPG
- PNG photos → JPG — photos saved as PNG are almost always much larger than necessary. Converting to JPG at 85–90% quality saves significant space.
- SVG → JPG — when you need a raster image version of a vector graphic
- GIF → JPG — for single-frame GIFs; note that JPG can't preserve animation
- WebP → JPG — for compatibility with systems that don't support WebP
Transparent Backgrounds
JPG does not support transparency. When converting images that have transparent areas (PNG, WebP, GIF, SVG), the transparent regions are filled with a solid background color. White is the default — change it above if you need a different color (e.g., matching your website background).
