How to Write a YouTube End Screen CTA That Converts

The end screen is shown to viewers who've watched most of your video โ€” your most engaged audience. Yet most creators waste it with a generic "like and subscribe" that viewers mentally filter out. A well-crafted end screen CTA can increase your subscriber conversion rate by 3โ€“5ร— and boost next-video click rates significantly.

The 3-Part CTA Formula

1. Acknowledge what they just watched โ€” Reference the video topic to create continuity: "Now that you know [what they learned]โ€ฆ"
2. Give a specific reason to subscribe / click โ€” Not "subscribe for more content" but "subscribe because I post [specific type of video] every [day/week] and you'll get [specific benefit]."
3. Direct action with a single CTA โ€” Point physically at the subscribe button or next video element on screen. "Click that" is more effective than "check out" โ€” physical direction increases clicks.

What to Avoid

  • "If you liked this videoโ€ฆ" โ€” Conditional language reduces compliance. Remove the "if" โ€” assume they liked it.
  • Multiple CTAs competing โ€” "Subscribe, like, comment, and check out my next video" โ€” too many asks = none of them happen. Pick one primary CTA.
  • Begging tone โ€” "It would really mean a lot to me if you subscribed" โ€” desperation repels subscribers. Lead with the value they'll get, not your need.
